Lesson Standards

Lesson Etiquette

Lessons are 40 minutes long and are  scheduled at a consistent time each week to ensure steady progress and routine for students.  All books should be brought to each lesson unless told otherwise.

Please do not knock or ring the doorbell.  Quietly come in, close the door securely, and wait in the entry hall until the previous lesson is finished.  Shoes will be removed and hands sanitized before coming to the piano.

Lessons will begin and end on time.  Students arriving late will have their lesson shortened accordingly.

Missed Lessons

Preferably, please notify the studio at least 24 hours in advance if a student will miss a lesson.  Make-up lessons may be scheduled based on availability.

Holidays & Breaks

A calendar will be provided at the first fall lesson with Piano Party and Recital dates, as well as any studio closures.

The studio calendar will generally follow the Nebo School District calendar regarding holidays.  If school is cancelled for inclement weather, lessons will also be cancelled.

Materials & Resources

All required lesson and theory books will be purchased by Mrs. Howell at her discounted rate and will be included on the next billing statement.  Payment for these should be included with the tuition payment.  A basic metronome is helpful to have at home or access to a metronome app for practice.

Parent Feedback or Concerns

Please contact Mrs. Howell outside of lesson time through phone, email or text to discuss progress or concerns.  Parents are always welcome to attend any lesson and quietly observe

Practice Expectations

Students must have a digital or acoustic piano with 88 working and weighted keys and a working pedal with a proper piano bench.  Students are expected to practice 6 days a week.  Student progress suffers or even stops with very little or inconsistent practice.

The weekly assignment is found in the assignment book and should be followed in order. Theory written assignments should be done at home right after the lesson.   Compositions should be worked on at home for 2-3 weeks or until complete.

Parental Involvement

Playing the piano is a physical skill and cannot be learned only through the knowledge obtained during lesson time.  Please establish and maintain a consistent daily practice time and create a space free from distractions.  Parents will be expected to sign their child's practice chart after practice each day.

Piano Parties

Piano Parties are held frequently throughout the school year at no extra cost.  Students are invited to play 1-2 pieces they have been working on before an audience of their peers.  This develops self-confidence and poise at the piano and provides a learning atmosphere for performing.  Theory and music games are are also played.  Attendance is expected and strongly encouraged.

A Boo-tiful Music Halloween party and a Holiday Harmony cookie exchange party will also be held.

Recital

All students will participate in the Spring Recital held every May.  A Recital Fee will be included on the April billing statement (no more than $40 per family).

Tuition & Payments

Tuition

Tuition is charged on a monthly basis.  For the 2026-27 year, tuition will be $35 per lesson.

Payments

Statements will be emailed at the end of each month with each attended lesson accounted for and any music purchased.  Payment by cash or check is due by the next lesson.  Payments may also be made through Zelle.

A late fee of $20 will be applied to the next statement if payment is not received by the 15th of the month.

Referrals

Want a free lesson?  Refer a friend!  When that friend begins lessons, a credit for one lesson will be applied to the next statement in appreciation.
